I believe the 144,000 does not represent a literal number of saved people, but rather is a representation of perfection among chosen people. It is a perfect square of 12,000 - twelve obviously representing the tribes of Israel, the chosen people of the Lord. |

11 Q. What are we to understand by sealing the one hundred and forty-four thousand, out of all the tribes of Israel-twelve thousand out of every tribe? A. We are to understand that those who are sealed are high priests, ordained unto the holy order of God, to administer the everlasting gospel; for they are they who are ordained out of every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, by the angels to whom is given power over the nations of the earth, to bring as many as will come to the church of the Firstborn. |
I was just thinking if the statistics are available to see how many ordained High Priests there are in the world and also, wether the scripture refers to the total in the World at the time of the Coming of the Son or total worthy High Priests period. If it is purely symbolic then it does not matter either way.
I don't believe that this number has anything at all to do with the number of high priests in the world today, since almost all of them are from Ephraim. The scriptures are very clear that whether the number is symbolic or not, they are evenly divided among the 12 tribes.
