    The Horror Of Katrina

    Horror of Katrina

Someone on another Forum I visit was nice enough to compile the below. One person commented, 'Look who is doing it':

Girls went through "a living hell" as mob rule swept the Superdome White tourists were targeted, says British student "SURVIVING Hurricane Katrina was the easy bit."
"We saw bodies coming into from the dome. One person had six or seven stab wounds."
    - Eyewitness account.
"I saw the body of a soldier. The mob had shot him with his own gun."
    - Eyewitness account
    Brit newspaper calls Superdome "Horrordome."

Children raped, murdered in New Orleans convention center

A fourteen-year-old girl was raped to death, an ordeal that lasted four hours. Horrified onlookers were powerless to help.
According to another eye-witness account, "Sitting with her daughter and other relatives, Trolkyn Joseph, 37, said men had wandered the cavernous convention centre in recent nights raping and murdering children."
    Ref. https://www.theage.com.au/news/world...5302772301.html

Convention center and the Superdome became lawless hellholes beset by rape and murder

"A young lady was being raped and stabbed. And the sounds of her screaming got to this man and so he ran out into the street to get help from troops, to try to flag down a passing truck of them, and he jumped up on the truck's windscreen and they shot him dead."
    - Eye witness account

"There is rapes going on here. Women cannot go to the bathroom without men. They are raping them and slitting their throats."
    - Eye witness account

"We found a young girl raped and killed in the bathroom," one National Guard soldier told Reuters.

Europeans ordered by US Army to huddle and protect themselves

"The army told us to stick in a group and for the women to sit in the middle with the men around the outside and to be ready to defend ourselves" - Eye witness account.

"We were scared that we would be raped, robbed, or both," British University student The "internationals", as the army labeled the stranded tourists, were among the few white people in the stadium. Marked out by their skin color and unfamiliar accents, they were verbally abused, while their luggage made them targets for robbery. One of the most dangerous periods came on Wednesday when the military decided that the internationals should be removed for their own safety.

Brits back from New Orleans hell

Thursday night all the travelers were together. There were 40 or 50 of us. The lads were on the outside and the girls were on the inside. Tourists, meanwhile, were turned out of hotels to face terror on the streets. It was like something out of Lord of the Flies - one minute everything is calm and civil, the next it descends into chaos. A man has been arrested for raping a seven-year-old in the toilet.

People were shouting racial abuse at the Britons because they were white.
"All us girls sat in the middle while the boys sat on the outside, with chairs as protection." - Eye witness account
    Ref. https://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/m...ew_orleans.html

"We were getting attacked and pushed and threatened all the time just because we were white." - British Tourist
"We could barely sleep, we were so scared of being attacked." - Eye witness account
"Women were raped in there. One man tried to commit suicide. It was the most frightening experience of her life." - rescuer
"The conditions in the dome were horrifying, they had to step over dead bodies to get out." - father of victim
"Mum, I'm OK, I'm in the Superdome and it's hell." - Telex from Superdome
"There are dead people all around me and I have seen people kill each other. We have to have special guards. There is no water and the toilets are hell." - Telex from Superdome

131 Britons unaccounted for as of September 6
A British engineer who helped to design a crucial part of the space shuttle has been named, along with two of his children, among 131 Britons missing after Hurricane Katrina.

It appears that the horror of Katrina was not the actual storm. In times of crisis and times of terrible events, the people did not band together, they fell apart. Humanity showed its selfish dark side as social laws and curtesies fell into reckless, selfish anarchy. I feel so sorrowful at these events, and heartbroken for the victims of the victims of katrina. Thats not a sentence structure miscue, the victims of katrina created more victims. When we as humans allow ourselves to sink that low, we become no better than animals. My heart mourns for those who lived in that horrible hellhole for a week. Its even more saddening to see that somehow, in the midst of crisis, race became an issue. People single out for death and abuse because of their skin. Young girls preyed upon because of their weakness. Shame on the people of New Orleans that did these acts and those that allowed it to happen! Shame on you all! It would have been better that you died in the storm than bring down humanity with your disgusting depravity! You are a shame to every inhabitant of the city that you pollute with your existence! My hope, prayers and sorrows go out to those victimized in the Superdome. It is forever scarred by these events.

It's a sad state of affair, when something like Katrina brings out the best and worst of people. I feel for the women and children because they need the most help, and some men and boys are doing these things.

A serious question that I thought would have been approached based on my first post: If the city were covered by another ethnic group would these atrocities still of occurred?

If so, where else have you seen other racial groups doing this during time of similar disasters?

If not, then why is this racial group taking advantage of such a situation?

All of the questions you asked a very good ones. And to be honest I wish I knew an answer.

The only thing that comes to mind is, that as that race is concerned they were raised with standards that are sub-human. I know some people from that race who was raised with higher standards and would never participate in such atrocities.

Okay, so let us determine that poverty is one of the related issues, then added to the question list above we can add as #3 the following:

Are there ethnic groups in poverty that have not participated in such brutal acts when a similar disaster occurs?

I think it has less to do with race and poverty than it does from being raised to believe that authority is bad and only wants to put you down. I think many in the black community view the goverment as their oppressors. So, they haven't been raised to consider it wrong to take stuff that doesn't belong to someone in a situation that they consider hurting no one. After all, it is the business they stole from not the individual. I think they simply saw an opportunity to take something and did.

A perfect example is how the races were divided in the OJ Simpson trial. I don't think most blacks really believe he was innocent, but they saw his victory as a win for all of them against the unfair justice system that often doesn't provide them the same considerations as it does middle class whites. It didn't matter that two people were murdered. If this is the attitude you are raised with, I can see how looting will happen. Again, it is a way to get back at the society that has oppressed you.

I do not think it is because their skin is black, but because of how the perceive life. This is, of course, just my opinion, and I must admit, I have struggled not to think of these people doing this looting as animals. I try to see things from their eyes and tell myself I don't really know what I would have done in the same situation. I know we all think we do know, but I have learned that until faced with something, we never can really be sure how we will act.

Tena has chosen the cultural angle, but that still goes back to the question of poverty. People who are oppressed consider themselves lacking, but is that a reason to rape a seven year old girl over and over again until she is dead? I mean, we are talking about a few instances here, we are talking about people literally having to hurdle together so as to be protect women and children from savage beasts that are lower than the dust of the earth. I feel angry just typing this and thinking about it, but all vengeance is the Lord's.

I really do not know any other ethnic group that has done something similar during a disaster, I may be wrong, but if so please point it out to me. The rastafarians have this black power mentality that revolves around all that Tena described and they literally teach that everything is their's in a sense because everything belongs to God. The only other time I can think of an atrocity so big is the holocaust, but this was a deliberate act, not a means to take advantage of a natural disaster.

If any of you have seen the film 'Tears of the Sun' you will see a mentality here that I have not encountered in any other ethnic group. Before anyone starts accusing me of stereotyping my interest is finding out if there is a pattern here and if so, what is that pattern.
