As programs get smarter there is the promise of salesmen that you can cut out the web developer and build your own web site. This is true to a degree but far from the future. Clients want more and more custom actions to help them sell their products. this requires more than a simple we builder because coding is involved. In addition to this not everyone has a good eye for detail or know what are the best practices for the internet. All these things mean that there will always be a need for web developers.
