Hispanic Not A Race? - Page 3

I suppose people just like to use the colloquial terms. White, Black, etc should not be a term to describe race but Caucasian, Negroid, Mongoloid, etc.

Anyhow, I do not want to go offtopic because the thread is dealing specifically with Hispanic not being a race. I think the US came up with the idea that Hispanic is a race and it spread all over and most people now see it this way.

I did not mean to go off subject. If Most the world views it as a race then should we consider it one. So to my point of posting I would have to say that Hispanic is a race.

Says who and why? Just because they believe it this way, why should we accept an obvious erroneous definition? Unless you want them to live in error....and that's a personal choice.

Personally, as Hispanic myself I always make it clear it is not a race but an ethnicity. Why (if I know better) would let others believe something that it's not true?

If there is even an argument out there about this how can you claim to be "right" and the rest of us wrong. we must remember this is of opinion not of cold hard fact. I have looked up the definition of race and gotten 6 different responses. so what makes a race a race? Is it by your standards or Websters or world book. I am not saying you are wrong just that I don't agree with Hispanic not being a race of people. That is my opinion and I could be wrong but until I am given solid proof of it I stand on my point.

Your opinion, yes but that you did not back up at all with sources/studies etc ..Nevertheless, it seems like this is one of those things we will have to agree to disagree. I proved my point already and I even made mention of *real* "races" but obviously was not to your satisfaction and it's fine.

Carefully researching on the race issue would also prove my point. You can also google "hispanic is a race?" and see the kind of information you may find. Moving on to another thread now.

The whole time we were discussing this I was researching it on the internet and book sources I.E. World Book, Websters Dictionary, Encyclopedia.com, Dictionary.com, Wikipedia.org, and the opinion of my Hispanic friends. I do my homework before I debate.

Really? Well, does not seems so in this case but I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Please show me sources (quote and links) where specifically state that Hispanic is a race and not an ethnicity. I am all ears.
