Hacker Attack - Are You Patched?

I think I am going to start keeping this thread for these kinds of updates. By the way to patch your computer... Open up Internet Explorer and click on 'Tools' then 'Windows Update'. Follow the online instructions for updates. You may be asked to install a plugin from Microsoft go ahead and say yes.

To see whether your computer has been hacked by this worm, run the
"regedit" program (Start > Run > type "regedit" and click OK) and then
navigate the registry (a huge gobbledegook database of stuff on which
your computer depends - do NOT alter anything unless you know what you
are doing!) to find the section:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun

If msblast.exe has hacked your machine, there will be a line there:

 "windows auto update"="msblast.exe"

This causes the worm to run at system startup - so delete this line.

To stop the running program, press the keys Ctrl, Alt and Del at the
same time and release them.  Select the "Task Manager" option and look
for the line with "msblast.exe" in it.  Select that and end that
process. Close the Task Manager and try again to make sure it is gone.

Outlook Express is a can of worms - it has so many security problems
that I think it is nuts to run it.  If you insist on running it, then
you should keep up with all the security updates such as:

One thing I have noticed lately is since I have three different avenues to delete pop-up windows I now am getting these stupid windows that ask, something to the affect of, "Do you want to install Spyware by "Spyware Labs, Inc.?" or other companies. They totally bypass the pop-up window deleters and just sit there on the screen waiting for you to click a button to accept or reject.

I am getting *SO* tired of not even being able to sit here and work on a project without having to stop and constantly delete these and other stupid windows I don't want!

You probably need to do this, if you know how is another story, but here goes:

1. Check your registry to see what programs start with Windows, there might be some there that are targeted to do this, they work behind the scenes.

2. Download and install Zone ALarm, this will stop all unwanted programs from accessing the net, it will also stop snoops from looking at your computer

3. Download and run Spyware and other trojan checkers that look for programs and files that should not be there.

4. Install Netscape 7.2 which has very good features to put you in control.

After doing this your computer should be good to go

Alot of times, these are caused by certain types of freeware that you can download from the net.  I know that the original Kazaa program has tons of these pop-ups.  Plus, there are other program pop-up ads like sychronize your time with such and such software, these too cause pop-ups that will by pass your pop-up blocker.

Hacker Attack - You Patched Computer Issues & Video Gaming

Good.  I am glad that they are starting to crack down on these people.  I think that they should make an example of him as well.  But of course many teens see what happens to someone else and thinks, 'it will never happen to me'  :  But in the end, justice will prevail.  But isn't it like for every hacker caught there is always another to take his place?
