Married LGBT older adults are healthier, happier than singles, study finds
Same-sex marriage has been the law of the land for nearly two years -- and in some states for even longer -- but researchers can already detect positive health outcomes among couples who have tied the knot, a new study finds. Ref. Source 7p.
House passes bill codifying same-sex marriage protections; prospects in Senate unclear. Amid concerns that the Supreme Court could revisit its 2015 decision legalizing same-sex marriage, the Respect for Marriage Act got unanimous support from House Democrats, who were joined by 47 Republicans. But no concurrent bill has been introduced in the Senate. Source 1c.
I fear for many of the rights that have been decided by Supreme Court rulings are at risk, including same sex marriage, and agree that if the Senate does not pass this bill it will be the final nail in the coffin for Republicans. Though the party has long since last any respect from me, apart from possible a handful of Republican politicians and even then those frustrate me. Even Democrats have fallen short and not done nearly enough.
I hope the bill passes, that same-sex marriage can be protected, yet I have my worries and doubts to say the least. I have all but given up hope on the US government and in our political parties. Whether the rights of women, same sex marriages, and even transgender rights. The LGBTQ+ community as a while and of minorities. To not see the radical right and conservatives Christians be able seize control of our nation.
We need to have same-sex marriage protection codified into law, same as abortion protections. The government, whether federal or state, should not be allowed to ban same sex marriage. As guaranteed "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof", the argument that marriage can or should only be between a man or a woman is outdated and very much religiously motivated.
Same-sex marriage protections must be defended.
Historic same-sex marriage legislation passes the House, now heads to President Biden who is expected to sign it into law. The Respect for Marriage Act, passed by the Senate last week, guarantees federal recognition of any marriage if the union was valid in the state where they married. It also requires states to accept the legitimacy of a valid marriage performed elsewhere. Source 6p.
