How one of the oldest natural insecticides keeps mosquitoes away. A new study has identified a scent receptor in mosquitoes that helps them sniff out and avoid trace amounts of pyrethrum, a plant extract used for centuries to repel biting insects. A simple solution almost everyone can do is to always keep their surroundings clean. Making sure that we do not leave any possible uncovered water containers and other possible breeding habitats of these beings greatly reduces their chances of propagation, which effectively controls the inconveniences and even the real danger attributed to them. This is what we do in my country, and so far it is working for our cause. Although we still have cases of mosquito-related diseases, it has been properly been controlled to a managable degree.
