Manual all the way. It is more fun, generally more fuel efficient, and gives the driver more control when it is needed. If the road conditions become compromised due to snow or rain, then a manual transmission really shines because you can slip the clutch and you can always start in second gear which allows you to apply more torque to move the car without over doing the horsepower. Automatics are nice now and then cause they take no effort to drive, but limit your options should you get stuck in a snowdrift, there is a limit to how little of the power you can send to the tires.
I have never driven a manual. I'm already anxious enough driving, I'd rather have one less thing to worry about with an automatic!
