North Carolina lawmakers reached an agreement to repeal the state's bathroom bill
North Carolina Republican lawmakers said Wednesday night that they reached an agreement with Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper on legislation to resolve a standoff over the state's "Bathroom bill," which requires transgender people to use public restrooms corresponding to the sex on their birth certificate. The NCAA has said North Carolina sites won't be considered for championship events from 2018 to 2022 "Absent any change" in the law, which it views as discrimination. Ref. USAToday.
Yeah, sometimes people do the strangest things. I understand some of what is being said about not wanting people of opposite genders to have access to each other's bathrooms, but there has to be a way to figure this out without trampling on a whole group of people. Also, is this a huge ado about nothing? I mean, is it really going to lead to a bunch of men trying to gain access to women's bathrooms?
I rather doubt it, most of the people the bill affects have been going into the bathroom that matches their current gender for decades without reported incident, and the behaviors people are trying to claim suddenly will start happening are still against the law, report it if there's a problem as usual.
For instance, I keep hearing people panicking about little girls seeing penises in the bathrooms. If someone is walking in and exposing their genitals to others, you've got a problem that has nothing to do with transgender rights, stop conflating the issue.
Daishain,
Yes, I see your point and you make a compelling argument. I agree with you. It's already against the law, there shouldn't have to be another law protecting people by hurting a whole group of other people. Especially since it seems there hasn't been an issue in the past.
