For pregnancy or profit: Motive for undergoing IVF may alter the experience. A new study compares the physical, emotional, and cognitive experiences of women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) either to become pregnant or to donate their eggs for money. The researchers found that there is a direct correlation between the intensity of a woman's bodily experience and her reason for harvesting eggs. Source 3c.
IVF: What makes a good egg? In approximately 15 percent of cases where couples are unable to conceive, the underlying cause of infertility is not known. Researchers have identified a protein in mice that must be present in eggs for them to complete normal development. Without the protein, called ZFP36L2, the eggs appear ordinary, but they cannot be fertilized by sperm. Source 2h.
