Hi, yes, it's the same batter that they use as in this recipe!
They just slice the potato really thinly, then dip it into the batter mixture before you deep fry it (or shallow fry if only a couple done at a time)
Hope that helps!
Best wishes, Diane.
P.S. You've made me hungry now

Comments: Wow, I'm from England and I'm living in Sweden right now, I miss fish and chips so much! This batter was perfect! a real taste of home, I'm gonna surprise the kids later and make fish and chips for tea. Sam, you can use this recipe for scallops and everything else too!
Thank you so much!

Comments: I miss British fish and chips from the "Chippies". This would be the food of sustenance after walking for miles. Sure it wasn't that healthy but the taste is so good... Lots of oil, grease, gravy and vinegar! Thank you for the recipe, I will try it but are there recipe variants for the fish batter? Seems like each chippy had their own way of doing it.
You can try almost any fish with the recipe in the first post. There are variants to it but DianeC got it standardized. Gravy or vinegar is traditional but I make my own tartar sauce to go with it.
