Limit Speed Tunisia
Like most Middle Eastern countries, the speed limit in Tunisia is nothing but a suggestion. People disregard it all the time. If a police officer decides to stop you for speeding a well timed bribe, sometimes nothing but a case of water, is enough payment to clear up any misunderstanding.
Rather off topic, but...
About the word bribe. What we in the West would call a bribe in this case, paying the police officer to clear up the situation, those in the Middle East call the cost of doing business in their country. Cops are very poorly paid and this type of activity is a built in way to supplement their salary. It is expected.
They also have baksheesh in the Middle East. This would be considered baksheesh, which is alms, a tip, or a bribe. The last is the Western interpretation, the Arabs look at is as a tip or part of doing business there. This is part of the cultural differences that makes it hard for us to understand them and them to understand us. After all, they've been doing this for thousands of years so they see nothing wrong with it.
Rather, they think our political system is all about bribes and is completely corrupt. They see the vast amounts of money politicians spend over here to get elected and then they look at the pittance they ask for baksheesh and they wonder where the fairness is, where the balance is. No matter how we try, we can't explain it to them and I'm not sure they aren't more right than wrong.
