It just plays into the whole Skynet we have talked about in other threads. With this system every vehicle will be linked into the grid. A government would know where your vehicle is at all times. That is very frightening.

Yes, Skynet scares me too. I know I'm probably out of my mind for this but I do worry about us developing computers that are actually smart enough to challenge us. I'm quite sure we will be the architects of our own destruction if we don't get a lot smarter and more empathetic a lot faster. And Skynet in our cars just makes us more vulnerable.

I think something very similar to skynet is already in place. You have to wonder about science fiction movies. I will expand on this in a different thread. Smart cars I do believe will make the roads more safer and allow many more cars to be on the current roads at a time in a safer manner.
I don't think smart cars will make the road safer unless laws change drastically. What I mean is there would have to be laws in place that precludes people from grabbing control of the car and going manual. I say that because if people can go manual many will, and computers won't be able to understand or react to the illogical things humans do.
A driver-less car I believe will make the roads safer as they will not have a way for the humans inside to take control and drive the car. The computers can think faster than us and process stuff faster than us thus enabling driver-less car to go faster safer and get people to their destinations in one piece and quicker. I am a supporter of driver-less cars.
I'd love a driverless car especially as I'm getting older. The issue I have with it is with any new technology, it is going to take years for the technology to get to a price where I could afford it. Now if I could buy into a driverless car pool where I could be guaranteed a pickup with in 30 minutes of a phone call and it was about 300 a month, I'd sell my van and sub to it.
The driverless car would be a boon to all those people who can't drive - the elderly. My mom would have so much opened back up to her if she could call for a car and have it drive her to a friend's house, appointments, etc. Disabled people - they would have the safety to get where they need to get without worrying about their safety on the street.
I can't wait for driverless cars to be a reality!
Here is the thing with Driverless cars. They are safer and they obey the rules of the roads. The main issue with driverless cars is the fact of the human factor. You can never program a car to be able to predict what a human driver will or can do. I believe as the driverless car becomes more common that insurance companies are going to charge those who wish to drive themselves more. With this technology we will be able to fit more cars on our roadways safer at any speed.
