I think this is a good idea. I do not drink and drive at all. I am a alcoholic and I have made a conscious decision to not drink and drive. I believe that if I can do this others can too. Do I still drink? [Yes] I do but safe at home and not a whole lot.
That's a big confession to admit you're an alcoholic but I have one question though. Suppose while intoxicated you pick up your keys and start to drive? I'm asking this because you could be at your home but when you're intoxicated you don't think consciously about not driving drunk.
I do not get drunk anymore. As a alcoholic I do not allow enough beer to be brought into my house that would intoxicate me. When there is family get togethers I make sure that if I do drink it is only one maybe two beers. This keeps me from drinking and driving.
THis is why I support harsher measures for those who do drive drunk. I also support adding to automobiles a device that will render the car inoperative until the person behind the wheel can prove they are sober. Drunk driving in the world is a major issue and more needs to be done to bring it under control.
Police sobriety checkpoints can reduce drunk driving better than increased penalties
Driving while impaired (DWI) causes more than 10,000 deaths per year in the United States. Although enforcing criminal sanctions for DWI is the traditional response, the success of these measures has been inconsistent. This study looked at risk perceptions as a method of reducing the frequency of DWI - in other words, whether the threat of being apprehended for DWI can deter people from engaging in this behavior. Which bar patrons underestimate their inebriation the most? College students, males, and people drinking alcohol at restaurants, bars, and nightclubs are at particularly high risk for driving after drinking. Breath-testing devices are not usually found at these drinking establishments, so patrons generally assess their own intoxication levels using internal (Feelings of intoxication) and external (Number of drinks consumed) cues, say researchers Source 3s.
