It is tough I hate giving children shots for every sing thing that might be contagious. I also like the idea of protection against life threatening diseases, like polo and lock jaw. I am unsure where I would place this one.
New way of preventing pneumococcal brain invasion. An international team of researchers has identified two receptors on the cells in the blood vessels of the brain that can be blocked and thereby prevent pneumococci from entering the brain. The study shows that the use of antibodies that block the receptors can potentially be used as a new therapeutic strategy for pneumococcal meningitis. Ref. Source 9p.
This is great research. My sister died from meningitis many years ago, leaving a husband and two small children. And I'm always reading about outbreaks at schools here and there in the country. Any research that can help eradicate this illness is good by me.
