I also think we should do a test to see if people should be allowed to reproduce based on other factors, like will whether passing their genes along would strengthen or weaken humanity overall. There was a time when nature took care of this by either having a sabre toothed tiger eat or a mastodon crush those with weaker genes… that just ain't the case any longer. But some might call me heartless for this.

The problem with this idea is that it is dangerously in the realm of Eugenics, which is frankly an almost evil ideal. People like me wouldn't exist in a world determined by eugenics - I have a mutated gene that caused me to have a freak case of scoliosis. In a Eugenic society, I would not be allowed to have children and pass on my genetics, and likely neither would anyone I know.

And that really is the problem with the idea of having parents try to pass a health and wellness test to have children - when do we draw the line? It's a good idea in theory but in actuality it could lead to far worse consequences.

I hope you have many years left Ninja *smile* This kind of talk is frightening really. The Nazi's tried what you are talking about. I don't really want to allow the government to decide who can and can't have children. I want to protect children but I'm really not sure about this approach.

Yeah, I understand what both of you say. Which is why it's a darn good thing I'm not in charge. In truth, my post was more than half posted jokingly and for shock value to entice conversation. Also, the Spartans of old did something like this except it was after children were born and had I been born back then I'd have been one of the babies they dropped off of the cliff since I was a preemie and rather small.

I think the way the earth is going and how the people of the earth are harming themselves with chemicals I would not be surprised to see the people become more sterile and then many of the people will not reproduce and we will not have this type of behavior from people who should not have kids. Until that day comes we will have to let those who want to reproduce, reproduce and watch some of the stupid things they do.

Well said KN. There is an old song by Zagar and Evans from when I was (We were) a kid called In the Year 2525. I truthfully think we are headed where the words of the song describe and we are headed there a lot faster then the song describes.
