A big part of why they aren't allies with us in the war on terror is because of us. Our government always wants to keep them as an enemy instead of reaching out to them. I'm sure if we seriously approached them about working together in this they would agree to it. Too many in our government act as if they are the Soviet Union still.

Yes, agreed. And I want to reiterate to all and sundry, I'm not naïve. I understand we there will be place where our policies clash… but those places where it doesn't we should work with them. That keeps the lines open and makes it easier to work things out when friction points erupt. The way things are now we're barely on speaking terms, which is dangerous for the two countries with the largest nuclear arsenals.
