How many more of these sickos are we going to feed with our taxes! They should be put to death since I don't believe any pedophile can be recovered.

Mom gets 3-8 years for not feeding daughter
Original Post Date: 22nd Apr, 2008 - 3:05pm

What kind of justice is this? This is completely RIDICULOUS! The sentence is a complete joke! It makes me angry that this can be done to a child and the mother is given a pat on the wrist.

A young mother wept Monday as she told a Schuylkill County judge she regretted not feeding or caring for her toddler daughter, who died in a feces-strewn, overheated Girardville bedroom in September 2005, and her infant son, who survived. ''I am sorry, from the deepest part of my heart,'' Amanda D. Trindle, 24, told Judge D. Michael Stine. ''I am sorry for the life I gave my children and the way I may have mistreated them. I loved and still do love my children and never ever intentionally meant to hurt them in any way.'' Stine, saying ''it's hard to sentence when justice can't be done,'' sent Trindle to state prison for 33 months to eight years, followed by 30 months of probation. He gave her credit for the 348 days she has spent in jail, meaning she could be released in less than two years. She could have gotten up to 19 years in prison. Trindle pleaded guilty on Feb. 21 to involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment in the death of 14-month-old Jade Lynn Leonard and the neglect of 3-month-old Leland J. Leonard, who recovered and is living with foster parents. An autopsy showed Jade Lynn died from dehydration and overheating, with chronic starvation. The doctor who conducted the autopsy likened her death ''to a child being left in a hot car.'' Leland weighed 8 pounds, the same as he did at birth, and was put on life support. Stine said the matter involved ''two kids who had children, pointing the finger at each other.'' The children's father, Donald R. Leonard III, 28, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment and on April 4 was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison. He got more time because he had a criminal record for burglary. ''I think she should have gotten a little more,'' Donald Leonard's father, Donald R. Leonard Jr., said after the sentencing hearing. Trindle's mother, Denise Earp, who said she will adopt Leland, said she felt the sentence was appropriate. Leland, who will turn 3 in June, has lived since February 2006 with Deborah Earp-Pitkins and her husband, Robert Pitkins, of Levittown, Bucks County. Deborah Earp-Pitkins is the sister of Trindle's mother's husband. Earp tearily testified on Monday, saying she last saw the children two weeks before Jade Lynn's death. ''I thought she was tiny, but she was a petite little girl,'' she said. She blamed the children's father for the problems, saying he could not hold down a job and refused to help with the children. She claimed she saw the father ''do little abusive things'' to Jade Lynn. Trindle, Earp said, ''loves her children and was a good mother.'' First Assistant District Attorney Karen Noon told Stine that Trindle initially expressed no remorse for her actions, but cried at her guilty plea and sentencing hearings. She also said Trindle was the children's primary caretaker and failed to follow through on doctor appointments. The autopsy report and medical examinations showed the children endured months of starvation and neglect, Noon said. Trindle, crying, read a three-page statement in which she said she was depressed while in prison -- she was jailed in July 2006 and released on reduced bail in April 2007. ''With my depression being the same, if not worse, I struggled to keep a job and better myself,'' she said.... Source 1g
