Blaider, You don't say anything about your friends relationship with his parents, but it sounds to me as though your friend was suffering from a Parenting Deficit Disorder. In addition to corporal punishment, he probably found some teachers who listened and encouraged him to develop what he was good at, plus a strict discipline and structured program, and time away from parents so he could find his own way.
He certainly did not have ADHD.

Yes you should never spank your child if they have adhd. It messes them up in the long run. So I think that you should try giving your child timeout. It is b4ett than corporal punishment. I don't like to see kids punished like that. It make me feel sad for them.
