You may be breaking some copyright laws by posting full articles from newspapers and other places.

Here is what you can do to keep this in check:

1. Post articles in part with full credit to the source, this should be in conjunction with your personal thoughts on the article. Your personal thoughts should be bigger that what you quoted and the copied text should be as a reference to backup your comments.

2. If you post a full article direct permission should be sought and most times they may require you to link to the article rather than post the article itself. This may be the method of which you wish to go as the link makes life lots easier.

3. If you have already posted something that falls into opposition of above I would ask that you modify them or delete them if you think you cannot get permission.

4. Articles posted with permission should be indicated by saying, 'Used by permission' or something similar.

Images

Similar to above do not upload images that are not public domain or for which you do not have permission to use.

Sorry for the trouble, but I do not want the board to get a reputation of 'copyright breakers'. Thanks for understanding.

Seeking Permission

For content, as a general rule you can quote up to a short paragraph and then link to it or publish the page and title that you are referencing. In all cases you always use the quote tags to establish that you are quoting an outside source. Simply putting the normal quotes (") is not enough. Establishing a source in minimal fashion should be done like this:

Copying Our Stuff!

Recently we were surprised to see one of our members using our stuff - word for word - on their site! That is a no-no! We spend money, time and effort in wording and creating many things on this site. Then others come and grab it for free without even a thought of making a donation and sending an Email request at the very least for our permission! We do not tolerate such things! We can understand you coming here for ideas for your own forum, in fact many join solely for that purpose, but do NOT COPY our text or images! Get your own stuff! You are in DIRECT violation of both our rules and disclaimer and members found doing this will not only be deleted, but their server / host will be contacted for violation of content.

If you currently have images, text or custom modifications unique to here on your site please remove them immediately!

Everything you add here is copyrighted. Your own input may become part of something that makes up this site. The Role-playing Games are a good example of this. Of course we are reasonable in regards to your own input. So if you do quote yourself elsewhere or anything else for that matter we simply ask that you reference it back to here with a link just as we do when quoting from somewhere else.

The only things we do not want copied at all in any way or form are things unique to this site, such as the scripts, graphics, rules and Game play in the Role-playing Games, etc. Hope that answers your question.

Linking to Images not on this Server

Recently we saw a couple users linking to images that are not part of this server. When doing so please beware that if you are linking to an image WITHOUT the permission of the owner of the image OR the permission of the person hosting the image then you stealing bandwidth and / or breaking copyright laws.

If you have an image that you would like to display in your own post and the image resides on YOUR server then it is fine to do so.

Q. There are so many images online. How do I know if an image is free to use or in the public domain?
A. What does the creator of the image say about it? If you don't know - don't use it. If it is in the public domain then usually it is an image more than 'x' decades old, has a license that is Creative Commons (0) or the creator explicitly states that the image is free for use either on the site you got the image or in a direct Email / letter to you.

Other intellectual property owners may require attribution for their work or allow you to use their image so long as you are not going to get money from it.

Most of the pics we use for games and the site we purchase, this is especially true with the Role-playing Games, avatars, etc. Some are my own art. Others are public domain or creative commons or we wrote requesting permission. You must seek permission from the intellectual property owner in order to use it or just do not use it.
