Anti-Terrorism Security, a reason to raise prices? - Page 2

Seems like the British are getting involved in this and soon their prices will go up too?

BRITAIN TO DEPLOY ARMED MARSHALS ON U.S. FLIGHTS

The UK government says it will deploy armed sky marshals on some passenger
flights in the United States following an increased terrorism alert in that
country.

I don't know if it's a valid reason for MOST businesses to raise prices. MOST businesses don't have any need for anti-terrorism measures. Utilities, police, fire, airlines, insurance companies that are truly affected by terrorism and efforts to protect against it or pay for the damage probably will raise prices, and may have valid costs that justify it.

It doesn't make me in any way "feel" safe. Safety is a state of mind -- the reality is, there is no way the government can MAKE the world safe. that's something I have come to realize in the past few years. I have to provide for my own safety, and it has to be a part of my "preps" for hard times.

Anti-Terrorism Security, a reason to raise prices? History & Civil Business Politics

It will take a Trinidadian citizen TT$1000 in order to get a US visa! That is ridiculous. Is the US trying to make it so that only the rich can travel? Imagine... if I simply wanted to go to the US I would have to buy a visa, buy a ticket, exchange my money at 6:1 and then be subjected to scrutiny upon arrival? No thanks!

Well, JB, I wish it were cheaper for you to travel to the US, because I would love to meet you. Yet, at the same time I do believe we need to do whatever we can to protect ourselves. It can hardly be questioned that security on airplanes flying in the US needs to be tightened. Air Marshals are probably the best way to do it and someone does have to pay their salaries. We probably should have been doing this all along, but until a big catastrophy like 9/11 no one is willing to incur the additional expense.

I don't think the US is trying to make it so only rich can travel, but it costs what it costs to pay salaries, etc. Should I as a US taxpayer subsidize the cost of a VISA for you to vacation here? The good news is the value of the US dollar is dropping so the exchange rate should be more favorable which would make it cheaper for you.

I think we need to look more closely at how Israel has protected their airline so successfully for so long and do exactly what they do. It will cost more here because we have more airlines and more flights to worry about than Israel does, but I think it is important. Maybe I don't want to pay more to travel, but how would I feel about not having to pay that extra expense if someone I love ends up on a plane that is hijacked and flown into a building?

There are 'ghosts' amongst the people in US Cities

N-EXPERTS STALK U.S. STREETS
Government nuclear experts are working undercover in major U.S. cities, using high-tech equipment hidden in briefcases and golf bags to hunt for radiological "dirty" bombs and other weapons terrorists might use.
