Does the Mafia still exist without John Gotti ? From my understanding when a head member dies. Some one else from the chain of command steps up. In the 80's - mid 90's the Mafia stayed in the headlines. But today you don't hear too much about them. Also when John Gotti was sentenced to life in prison. Alot of New Yorker's were shocked and disapointed. It's like New York City worshipped and feared this man at the same time. It wouldn't surprised me if he had the NYPD on his payroll. This man was so powerful , he still called the shots behind bars. He ended up dieing in prison from throat cancer. I'm sure someone in the Gotti Family stepped up. I think people are fascinated with the Mafia lifstyle. They even have a hit show called The Sorprano's which seems to be a hit show. What are your thoughts on this ?
For those who want details on the subject:
As Gotti rose to the top he left behind a bloody trail of bodies, as well as an assortment of embarrassed law enforcement agencies. Putting him away became an obsession that would cause the government to go after him with no holds barred . In 1992 the man who had gone from the Dapper Don to the Teflon Don was convicted of RICO charges in Brooklyn's federal district court. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
