Computer Home Work in T&T

The other day they had on the T V a show that seems like it would be a good thing for students and schools and teachers, and with a little change it just might work. That was the teacher had the students for a day and then gave computer home work. Well wouldn't it work if the students had a partial day at school and then went home with the computer homework? At school they can get the questions answered and help and at home follow threw on the computer disk and then have periodic test to determine their progress with a computer.

This seems like an interesting idea but unfortunately, I do not feel confident that it will work in Trinidad. The following indicates drawbacks to the above:

1) Not everyone in Trinidad and Tobago can afford a computer. This means that those who are not rich, will be "left behind" if this system is implemented.

2) What happens if there is no electricity? In Trinidad, the electricity is switched off very frequently and if this happens, students will not be able to do their homework.

3) If you introduce a system of allowing students to go to school for half a day, this is asking for trouble. Most students will see this as an opportunity to enjoy themselves for the rest of the day, rather than go home and do homework.

It is important to allow our children to go to school for a full day since this prepares them for the adult working world. School instills discipline by: encouraging students to listen attentively in class, taking instructions from those in authority, showing respect for your peers and those in authority. To implement a system of allowing students to go to school for half a day and go home with computer homework, will encourage laziness since many individuals will be tempted to play computer games or go out with friends. Also, some students may be creative enough to "pay" others to do the homework for them.
