Did you know that in 2007 the number of children who ran away from their homes was over 300? TV6 reported that it is on the rise.

Children Runaway Trini

I am not surprised in the least. When I was teaching this was a common occurrence, broken homes and let me tell you the issues some of these kids face at their homes are so deep and so serious and so troubling that will make ANYONE run away. The worst I saw was this 16 years old who have been repeatedly raped by her brothers since very young, and "mom" knew it all along and did nothing.

Trini Runaway Children Caribbean / Tobago & Trinidad

My mother came back to T&T about 10 years ago after she retired as Director of Nursing for a US hospital and had a small school (under the house) to teach young girls (with no parental influence) how to read, write, and prepare themselves for the workplace. All they needed was guidance and someone to look out for them and she found them very interested in learning!
Too often 'parents' leave their children (especially girls) unattended and do everything except caring for those children and that is becoming (if not already) a big problem in T&T!
