Little Children Eatten by Bears?
 2 Kings 2:23-24
In these verses we learn of some little children who came out of the city and mocked Elisha (well at least we know that Elisha was a bald head man from them making fun of him) and Elisha turned around and cursed them in the name of the Lord. Later some she bears ate these children, forty-two of them!
Isn't this a bit harsh? What about forgiveness or ignoring? Afterall, they are little children right?

Actually the term "Old Baldy" was a a derogetory phrase used to call people who refused to wear a head covering in the temple... these were considered disrepectful, blasphemers and even apostates... Had not very much to do with the ammount of hair on his head...

So are you saying that Elisha refused to wear a head covering in the Temple or something?
as bell lee correctly said from the institue manual they were young men who kill the young of the she bears and the bears where tracting them so when elisha cursed them it was divine justice that they were killed.so it was in the book of mormon with the people of ammonihah.the lamanites were killing the antinephilehites because of their conversion and at about or near the same time the nehors in the city of ammonihah killed the children and wives of the believers by burning them.and so the lamanites stoped killing the anti nephi lehites and turned on the city of ammonihah.i say divine justice what you sow you shall reap.
VERY interesting point Belle although it seems hard for me to believe that the bear actually killed '42' of them...or the fact that Elisha cursed them.
I find a lot of the Old Testament stuff hard to believe! I don't mean I don't believe it, because I know it is scripture, but a lot of it does seem extreme.
Life was very different then. I read once someplace (I don't remember where) that life was so harsh in Old Testament times that Heavenly Father had to be harsh as well because that was what people understood.
Times were pretty harsh in New Testament times as well. Stoning to death for adultery, etc. I am surely glad to be living at a time when the focus is on the rewards of good behavior more so than on the consequences for bad. Even though there are consequences.
I really enjoy the knowledge that my Father loves me and is watching over me with his "protective arms".
When you think about it though, the mortal consequences were very harsh (by our standards today) but the eternal consequences are the same today as then. Just something to ponder, I guess

This is so true, actually everytime I read the Old Testament and read about the Mosiac Law it is so difficult to understand why our Loving Heavenly Father will command to do certain things that sometimes seems kind of 'inhuman'...I know it may sound harsh, I could not think in a better word.
