Torrent sites usually have illegal software often spiked with viruses and trojans. You should not download from torrent locations and use only legit sources to acquire any software / files.

Safe Torrents Are

I have, from time to time, made use of torrents but you need to be careful and know what you are doing. Admittedly, I generally limit myself to file types I know won't install anything I don't want. Running a scan on the files is still a good idea.

Still, by making use of torrents you are showing a willingness to at least take some risk, and you need to decide if you are willing except such risk before using such.

Torrents are as safe as anything else on the internet. Or to put it another way, they're fine if you know what not to touch. Of course, there's a lot more you need to not touch when it comes to torrents compared to most other things, but still.
