Why Can't The Blind See? - Page 2

In my opinion, many of today's blind are cured in miraculous ways. The advances that have been made in medical science and technology would certainly seem a miracle to anyone from biblical times! Does it take faith to go "under the knife" for surgery that will heal? I believe it does. Did the knowledge and skill to provide that surgery come from God? I believe it does, whether the one wielding the scalpel considers it that way or not.

On the other hand, if you are speaking of healing by the power of God and Faith alone, we do seem to be lacking in these occurences in the past couple of thousand years. However, how many blind people do you know who actually seek healing in this way? One can't be healed unless one seeks to be in the first place. There were several instances in the scriptures:

QUOTE
Matt. 12: 22
22 ¶ Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
#
Matt. 15: 30
30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus" feet; and he healed them:
#
Matt. 21: 14
14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
#
Luke 18:40-42
40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

It would seem to me that first, one has to seek the healing; second, they must have faith that they can be healed; and third, they have to find someone who has the power from God to heal them. And that last one may be the real stickler: who on this earth at this time has the power to bestow the healing?

Offtopic but,
SivanIlius - not everyone believes in God, hence their use of the lowercase spelling is sufficient.

See Blind Cant Why

I believe that god made some people blind because he has a purpose for them, I don't know what that purpose is, and that's why they aren't healed.

Thats not a very nice premise now is it? Your blind, you suffer, because god has a purpose for you. Yes, your purpose is to have a sucky life not being able to see, I made you that way to glorify me! Hey thanks, appreciate being used and manipulated like a puppet, like a rag doll with no feelings, poke and prod me to make yourself look great. But then, thats all just myth and legend any way. I grew up in church, pentecostal, much much faith, trust me, I was one of the apologists then. But I never saw one person truly healed. Nothing spectacular. Someone gets "healed" of cancer, but then it returns and he dies seven years later, that happens frequently and is in no way a miracle. Someone gets healed of a headache. Thats easy, old chinese "magic" tricks work to get rid of a headache if you really believe it will work. If there were really miracles, then how about someone having something dynamic happen, like the blind being healed, like a spontaneous limb regrowth, or a broken limb healing in front of someones eyes. But that doesn't happen, because it never did. Just like the ancient gods, the stories of the norse gods and greek gods, even in the muslim, there are great stories of healing and conquering. Christianity is no different, just a different twist added to the legend, a story that never happened. The blind aren't "healed" because its not scientifically possible, and no amount of faith can fix something that is truly incurable. Like I said, if you want to bring about faith, how about healing something that cannot be fixed by science. Heal someone who "cannot" be healed. Such things like cancer have been known to go into spontaneous remission and disappear, but advanced AIDS has never just gone away, or advanced Leukemia, healing that would be a real miracle. For that matter, healing the blind would count as well, to bad it won't happen.

konquererz, remember we are given free will. Everyone speaks of the free will as being just here in this physical realm. Why can't it be that the free will is also ours while in the spirit and we agree to be what we are to be in the physical to be part of the grand plan.
Judas was told that it was his place to turn Jesus over, in the physical he didn't want to but was made to by Jesus' reminder of Judas' duty. It must have been decided before the physical began, that Judas would play this part. These things didn't just come about, they would have been known of and planned.

In my humble opinion, based on my learning.

Why do you automatically assume that a blind person's entire life is "sucky"? Certainly, it's challenging to live that way amongst the sighted, but I can't see how, in this day and age, that the whole thing "sucks." We're much more technologically advanced, people in general are more aware, and greater opportunities exist now than ever before for people with all types of disabilities.

Rather off topic, but...

Not everything can be cured by science, Konq. You seem to have a lot of "faith" in "scientific fact" -- even though some very important scientific "facts" have been disproved over the centuries (the "fact" that the earth was flat, for instance). The more we learn, the more we realize that we don't know.

Why Can't The Blind See?

I guess the question is, why, when Jesus said that you would lay hands on the blind and they would see, that it hasn't happened. The question is, why don't these seemingly to good to be true healing miracles that happened in stories written down years after the supposed event not happen today if god can really heal them? Would not a display of power that huge, the healing of a blind man in a public place be much more sufficient to show himself than a book of stories?

It did happen, it happened during the ministry of Jesus - the Son of God, having power and authority - when he lived on this earth, and it was recorded. The apostles then continued that ministry, and they healed people, carrying the power and authority of Jesus Christ with them, and it was recorded. Then the church fell into a great Apostasy, and the power and authority to heal was lost.

My opinion, as I stated in a previous post:

QUOTE
...  first, one has to seek the healing; second, they must have faith that they can be healed; and third, they have to find someone who has the power from God to heal them.
How many blind folks actually seek a healing from someone who has the power and authority from God to do so?

QUOTE (konquererz)

Yes, it would be a huge show of power, and this is where faith comes in. Read the accounts of the events that happened, and have faith to believe them.

Or not. If something like this happened today, would you believe it? With all the charlatans and sleight of hand and camera tricks and computer enhancements, would you believe it, even if you saw it with your own eyes? You would think it was trick, wouldn't you? You might be amazed for a day or two, and then you would start to doubt that what you saw was real.

In order to be healed from our blindness you have to have faith in god. I believe all miracles can come true. God is the almighty healer. So if we pray for healing for our blindness we can get healed.
