Bible Tear Bottle
What was the reason for the Bible Tear Bottle that was given to the living family members of someone deceased?
Interesting question!
The only Biblical reference to tears in a bottle that I could find. (Psalms 56:8)
David, a fugitive at the time, figuratively speaks of a bottle in which God should save his tears in remembrance of the distresses he was going through.
Although I sympathize with those who have lost loved ones in death the practice of saving ones tears and giving them to the family as a sign of mournful respect has no Biblical foundation, but is a tradition of men.
The Jews definitely were experts in getting money for everything. Money to cry, money for the tear bottle, money to put their tears in the tear bottle. Just imagine a professional crier. You can see why Jesus was so angry with the Jews and did what he did in the temple.
