Israel never waited for the US when they needed to respond to attacks from other countries in the past, and they didn't this time either. There was no need for a 'green light' for Israel to counter-attack at Iranian owned and operated military facilities in Syria, after those military launched 20+ missiles into Israel first. Unless you feel that Israel should just sit back and let an enemy military force bombard civilians at will? Luckily for Syria Israel specifically targets military positions and not random locations, as Iran does.
I never said Israel should wait for someone to attack them. Green light means that America is not going to try to bridle Israel should something develop. America is the main supplier of Israeli military equipment and financial aide, indeed if Israel were to get involved with a major military offense with Iran they would very much need America on their side to keep much bigger gorilla nations out of the conflict. Even so, if there was a large scale war I feel Israel will find itself alone on that side of the world as they normally are.
It's a funny kind of situation with the US military funding and sales. The US gives Israel $3.5B for military spending but requires that Israel spends at least that on US military manufacturers. Israel has spent the last 70 years being alone in the Middle East when it comes to fighting her enemies, and this isn't anything they can't handle. If Russia got directly involved, instead of pulling the strings of those countries that are her puppets, it might be a harder battle. No other country in the world has produced more patents and technological advancements per capita than Israel, which could make for a hard foe for any who seek her destruction. Iron Beam was looking akin to a force field in some ways. It's still in development, but has the potential to destroy projectiles at a range of 5 kms, at a rate of up to 1 per second. This could include enemy aircraft as well, so…
Sounds like your boasting on Israel's behalf. There are no winners in war specially modern warfare. As strong as they may be they are not invincible and if they were so self-sufficient then they would not need our tax payer dollars. Even if they were required to spend that on US hardware it makes it virtually free to them. I also do not see Israel as being able to occupy any nation or territory, they do not have enough to do that for a large nation like Iran.
