Police Use Stun Gun On 6-year-old

Very sad story, it seems like the Police had not other alternative....

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- Police used a stun gun on a 6-year-old boy in his principal's office because he was wielding a piece of glass and threatening to hurt himself, officials said Thursday.

The boy, who was not identified, was shocked with 50,000 volts on October 20 at Kelsey Pharr Elementary School.

Principal Maria Mason called 911 after the child broke a picture frame in her office and waved a piece of glass, holding a security guard back.

When two Miami-Dade County police officers and a school officer arrived, the boy had already cut himself under his eye and on his hand...

I agree LDS_forever, this was a very disturbing story. It makes you wonder what would drive a 6-year old to such madness and what kind of family life he had at home. The mother was very upset about the police using such force with her child but at the time it seemed necessary as he was a threat to others and himself.

Some cases like this make me laugh, not like funny ha ha..but in the peoples stupity it's a 6 year old, your and adult. Who'd bigger? Grab hold of the kid and stop him...he's no martial arts expert I'd probably bet on that..but stop him.. Look people these days just make me chuckle when it comes to making little kids listen......

I cannot believe it was necessary to use such a weapon on a six year old. Perhaps 12 or 13, but 6 - never. As has already been said, this is a small child. Just grab his arm and remove the weapon. You could grab his wrist and twist until he let go because it hurt. I thin the officers involved in this should be disciplined. This is too much force to use in such a case, in my opinion.

I remember once when the boy I watch was five and he was strangling the dog. It was not that hard to grab his hands and pry him away from the dog, I assure you. I just cannot foresee police officer's having no other resort of getting a piece of glass from a six year old than stunning him. I agree, malexander, it does make one question as to what would have motivated this child to behave in such a way. Surely there had to be something behind the reasoning.

In the report I read that the mother made a statement three officers couldn't control a 6 yr old child. also she stated why not try candy or a toy or something else I do not believe they should have used a stun gun on him at all he is a child. If police officers can handle 200 pound drunk and raven adults with weapons without stun guns then why couldn't they handle a 6 yr old child? In my opinion the police were just to lazy to try other resorts. I do agree that the childs behavior there obviously showed some deep issues wether it be home or school there was something eating that boy up.
