Infant Dies In Hands Of Relative

Can stupidity, idiocy reach this far? This woman left her 19 months old daughter in the care of a male relative while she went to work. The baby died on Monday after suffering brain injuries while in the care of this man. The relative claims the baby fell downstairs. Now what is the stupidity I am referring to? The previous Saturday she left the baby in this man's care again and the baby returned with burns on her back. What kind of mother this woman is? Can someone be more irresponsible and stupid? The ONLY person I feel sorry for, is this little girl who suffered abuse and her own mother ignored it. I do not feel pity for this mother in the least.

ALISA Jack, the mother of 19-month-old Latrisha Jack, has forgiven the male relative under whose care her daughter suffered brain injuries on Saturday.

The infant died on Monday.

"I forgive you for everything," Jack said, yesterday outside the Forensic Science Centre at Federation Park.

She said though the relative had not said he was sorry for Latrisha's death, she had forgiven him.

The "laws of the land" will still have to run their course, she added.

As police continue to probe the suspicious death, the male relative drank a poisonous substance after being interviewed by police and is now at hospital.

The 27-year-old single mother broke down in tears several times as she spoke about the loss of her baby. She told the Express last night that she wants answers from the relative about what really happened to her baby.

Latrisha died on Monday at 10.05 a.m. At the Children's Hospital of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, after being admitted on Saturday with brain haemorrhaging.

The baby had initially been taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital (POSGH).

Latrisha went into surgery at around 3 a.m. To stop the bleeding, Jack recalled, and then doctors learned she was brain dead.

Jack said she continued to pray for a miracle even after receiving the news.

On Monday morning, while washing clothes, she received a call from the hospital that her daughter's condition was deteriorating.

Latrisha's condition continued to worsen and Jack said the normally active child looked like she was in a coma.

She stayed with her baby girl and continued to pray as "every dying breath" left her....
