Lds Primary Help! - Page 2

QUOTE

Speaking now as I wear my Primary 1st Councilor Hat ~ Your Valiant class should be split into two classes. 12 children is 6 children too many per teacher. Until they get you another Valiant teacher, enlist the older children to help with the younger children.

You mean my CTR class, right?. Yes, I have 12 children and I was assigned an assistant. I was thinking that maybe I can teach 6 of them and my assistant can teach the other 6. What do you think?. Of course, I will talk with the Primary President about it.

Encourage them ALL to bring their scriptures EVERY Sunday. If some don't have scriptures then have the Primary purchase them for them. When we approached the Branch Presidency about this, they purchased them out of the General Fund instead. We insisted they get the cheapest Trips, and we also bought red pencils and gave each child 1/2 of a pencil to underline scriptures with.

Great! none of the kids I teach have scriptures and I was wondering about it, thanks for the suggestion. smile.gif

Agene, you're a genius!!! thanks for ALL your help!!!!!! biggrin.gif

It is good that you have an assistant, but if it were up to me, I would promote that assistant to a Teacher and give her/him half your class. Yes, talk it over with your Primary President. note: if you feel you aren't getting anywhere with your Primary President go to your Councilor in the Bishopric who oversees the Primary first, then as a last resort go to the Stake Primary President.

As a matter of fact all of the Primary Teachers should be having monthly meetings with the Primary Presidency. Not only to receive pep talks, hints for lesson helps and also gentle, oh so gentle rebukes, but also for the teachers to inform the Presidency of any problems, children who need special helps, etc.

While I was helping in Nursery for two months, I noticed one of the children who was not interacting with the other children. He was a brilliant boy, at 2 he knew the entire alphabet in English, Spanish and French! And he knew all of the numbers up to 100! But he would not play with the other children. If they touched him he would jerk away and pace up and down near a wall. He would allow me or the other Sister to touch him and hold him, but not any of the children.

Then I happened to read about Autism. I watched him more closely, and I dug out all of the animals I could find in the toy chest, and I asked him what each one was and I watched him very closely. He didn't know his animals, but by the time Nursery was over he did!! He never once looked directly at the animal, he would side-eye it. Then repeat what I said, then wave with his hand for the next animal.

When I told my Primary President this, she set up a meeting with our Branch Presidency Councilor, and when I told him, he set up a meeting with himself, and the Branch Presidency.

The Branch Presidency talked with the boys parents and they were so relieved that someone else thought their son had special needs. They were terrified that they were nuts. Because of their Autistic son they have moved to where they can get him the best schooling.

In between all these meetings the 'Suits' volunteered in Nursery so they could observe the little boy. I was thrilled with the quick response of the Branch Presidency, and this is just a wee example of a Prayer answered.

Turn to your Primary President often, and if she assigns a councilor to you, go to her. The Presidency is there not only to run Sharing Time and the Opening/Closing exercises, but also to help and assist all of the teachers in any way they can.

I'm not enthused about Primary now am I ~ giggle ~ nope not at all (tongue in cheek and grinning) I favorite.gif my Primary! cheesy.gif

My companion of Visiting Teaching is also a Teacher in Primary, I asked her about meetings and she said that they do not have meetings at all.

Wow, what a wonderful story about that little boy! You see? that's what I want in Primary here in my Branch, caring sisters who pay attention about the children's need. In sharing time, the door is open and all the children are running up and down the hall without nobody from the Primary Presidency telling them anything, they even talked with themselves while sharing time is going on and you know, the kids get bored and start making noise. A couple of sundays ago the new District Primary President was there and saw what was going on and she got up and started singing with the children since it doesn't seem that nothing is organized, not even the lesson or sharing time. Before having this calling, my husband and I had to take turns to stay with Felipe because he has some special needs, he will just open the door and leave the class and the chapel if nobody is paying attention to him! and he did it twice without nobody in Primary noticing it!, the first time I was scared to death when they told me they didn't know where Felipe was. The sisters are just sitting down in the whole class and is boring!! it is boring for me, can you imagine for the kids?. They're not excited about Primary at all, I can see it in their eyes that they do not want to be there and the kids feel it. I wish you could be Felipe's Teacher!!! biggrin.gif

Oh My Gosh LDS, I feel for you. To have such an unorganized Primary! Could it be because the Primary Presidency doesn't know what they are supposed to be doing? I really haven't held any other office in Church ~ like in the Relief Society, Sunday School, but when you stop and think about it, the children are THE most important. If they aren't spiritually fed now, then there may never be a better time.

I don't know what to say about your Primary Presidency ~ I'll add my prayers to yours in that the District Primary President will shake things up, and that your Presidency will Wake Up and attend to their callings. If I was in charge I would have really Shaken Up the place by now.

I am quite outspoken when it comes to my callings. If someone gets in my way then I go through the chain of command LOUDLY until I get results.

About 4 months after 11 Sept attacks, we needed two large corkboards for the walls of the Primary room. The Primary Presidency was told that it wouldn't happen, because of 9/11. I told the 'Suits', nonsense, what did 9/11 have to do with the availability of corkboads? The next week I asked if our corkboards had been ordered. I was told absolutely not, nothing will get ordered until WE get word that we can order again. I told them to order them. Put the order in or I will. I have a key, I know how to use the fax machine. I know the fax number, our number, I have the order number for the corkboards. I will even sign whoever's name has to be signed to get the order through. Order the corkboards.

The next week I asked again. No they were not ordered. I said fine, then release me from Primary and the Library. They said no. I said fine, I'll go to the Newport Ward from now on. Send my records there. I didn't go to Church the next week, and I didn't answer my phone for the entire week.

The 1st Councilor came to where I worked on Sat. and he said: The corkboards have been ordered. I went to Church that Sunday. Two weeks later we had the corkboards PLUS three large dry erase boards!! Primary got one corkboard and one dry erase board!!!! The boards came from the Stake house. They were remodeling and no longer needed them. When they saw that we were ordering them, they sent them to us instead of the Dump!! Now if that order hadn't gone in, the Stake never would have seen it and we would still be without a corkboard.

Don't get in my way when I am doing for my kids! They come first, always!

Help Primary Lds

"It is this light, the light of the restored gospel--a 'voice of gladness'--
that parents can help their children come to know. The adversary is real,
but children can feel the peace and the joy that comes as they exercise
faith in Jesus Christ. Our children will not experience this light unless
we teach them the gospel."

(Coleen K. Menlove, "A Voice of Gladness for Our Children," Ensign, Nov. 2002, 13)
