Marxism

Recognizing that while I am opposed to marxist philosophy, I don't really know much about it. I never had time in college to take philosophy courses, nor political science. I know enough about communism and socialism, in their effects, to know that I will continue to fight them. But I don't know their philosophical foundations.

So, can anyone guide me to some basic reference materials on these subjects?

I have found several of Karl Marx's writings on The Online Books Page. However, I don't know if the Communist Manifesto is the right place to start.

Any suggestions?

Marxism

When I was in school, I wrote a paper on Marxism as a political thought process. I found several good references for books and such. I found that I really needed to understand marxism before I could understand what was being presented in Communist Manifesto. I no longer know the names of the books I read, but still have a list of good online reference pages to read through. Here are a few, I hope they are helpful.

Understand that I am in no way in support of marxism at all in any way shape or form. However, these sites are interesting. The last site was the most interesting over all because it presents the idea that nationalistic marxism is different from internationalistic marxism. Different ideas about marxism and how it is viewed are very plainly laid out in these web sites. I think you will find them very interesting. These three sites have been around for a while. Once you understand the ins and outs of marxism, I think you will understand the Communist Manifesto allot better. Marxism is a very interesting study from a purely political stand point.
