Massive Manhunt For Court Shooting Suspect - Page 2

I don't think this has anything to do with lack of security in the courthouses here in the U.S. It's just a matter of the security being caught off-guard as this type of situation is very rare.

When you are taken off guard, I would call that a lapse in security. Planes flying into buildings are pretty rare too, but it was definately a lack of security that allowed that to happen and we now take steps to try to prevent it.

Guns are handled differently from courthouse to courthouse, state to state. I have heard it suggested that no guns should be allowed in at all. I think this is the best course of action to take. Guns are not allowed into the areas of prisons where there are prisoners. This is to prevent the prisoners from stealing them and then using them against a guard. In courts that don't already practice this I think they should start.

For a discussion of some of the factors that led to the whole mess in Atlanta, read this:

Political correctness and incompetence often embrace each other. That was made clear in the Atlanta courthouse shooting. Brian Nichols proved to be a lot smarter than his captors, not to mention a quicker and better shot.

Political correctness and incompetence example No. 1 is the rule that prisoners must not be shackled lest it prejudice the jury. Luckily, the jurors weren't present, but if they had been, watching a prisoner shoot a judge and a court reporter would certainly be more prejudicial than seeing him in handcuffs. I expect even the incompetent people in Fulton County will change that rule.

I tend to agree with the whole article. Especially the parts about how civilians, unhampered by politically correct rules, resolved the whole thing. The police did nothing but run around in their politically correct procedures, and mess things up.

IMHO.

Massive Manhunt For Court Shooting Suspect History & Civil Business Politics

I frequently read Ann Coulter's weekly column. Sometimes I miss it. This week I didn't.

She is funny, sarcastic, and very, VERY good with words.

Here is her take on the Brian Nichols case:

I'll leave it to the Catholics to explain the theological details, but we have a beautiful pair of bookmarks to the exact same incident illustrating women's special skills and deficits. The escape and capture of Brian Nichols shows women playing roles they should not (escorting dangerous criminals) and women playing roles they do best (making men better people).
