Salt Lake Valley Shines

Pres. Hinckley announced that there would be another temple built within the Valley to allow for more ordinance work to continue as the Salt Lake Temple is well used. Exact quotes to come later.

Yes, I thought of some of the discussions we have had here on this forum where the assertion has been that this is not true and the we should beware of anyone who says "all is well in zion." President Hinckley did not say all is well in Zion, but he did say it is as good as it has ever been in the past. What are your thoughts on this?

To me, it makes sense. There is much evil in the world, it is all around us. Well, the more good the Church does and the more good people are within the Church, the more Satan must be visible in his attempts to disrupt the Church.

I agree with best financial condition, best growth position. However, there is approximately 50% inactivity rate, which was not specifically discussed -- although one speaker gave a great talk about Peace of Conscience, where "please come back" was the message.

I think it's amazing that Salt Lake would need a third temple! Can you imagine the need for buildings and temples if every member was actually temple-worthy active?? Wow.

Although this is a sad fact, I don't really consider that a factor when deciding how well the Church is doing....I know many of you will disagree. However, to me, those who are regularly attending their meetings and honestly attempting to live the gospel are what drive the Church and are what constitute its make up.

We all have agency. So, if I join and then choose to leave, I, personally, don't consider that a reflection on the state of the Church. It is a reflection on the person who chose that action, and yes we should make every effort to get them back, but I think the Church should be judged based upon the efforts of those who profess to be active members. How are they living their lives? Do they fulfill the callings given them. Do they pay a full and honest tithe? Do they attend they attend the Temple regulary, if there is one available to them?

If we were to excommunicate all of the inactive members who have committed acts that make them eligible for such discipline that 50% inactive number would be far lower. Would that then mean we were doing better because they wouldn't be inactive members any longer? I am not suggesting we do such a thing. I am just using as an example of why when I consider the success of the Church I don't factor in the inactive members.
