Tena, Farseer, Howe, excellent points. A new sister in the Relief Society told me Monday how she felt bad when some sisters were saying that if they have a friend who smokes or drinks they will not go around his/her home. She felt bad because she is a new member and all her relatives smoke and drink. So I did have to explain her that some members just do not understand why they are there and I assured her that this is NOT what we are being taught but we are taught to love one another and serve one another. Then I was thinking: these same women who were saying that, they were smoking, drinking and doing other things a couple of years ago...how slow they are to remember!.
We have this sister who had a new baby, she is not married and she had never been a member. She is the common in law wife of an ex-member. They come to Church every Sunday, can you believe that hardly anybody talk to them?. I talk with her almost constantly and ask her about the baby and all and she even asked me to select some names for her baby! and she even put the second name for her child 'Felipe' in honor of my son...I felt so touched.
Some members just cannot see the 'bigger' picture. We are there to serve those that are in need, not to show how much we have or know. We are there to uplift one another and by doing so, we learn so much more about the purpose of Christ on the Earth and his infinite Atonement.
