Palestine has been dedicated five times for the preaching of the Gospel, one has to wonder if the reason for this has been the constant circle of war and tribulation there. In the scriptures we read of the prophecy of two prophets slain in Jerusalem, could it be that they become wrapped up in the conflicts. Is all of this truly about religion, or is just man's greed? What is your view from an LDS perspective?
Such is the nature of the main organization of the nations at the present time. But if we look back for a few ages, we shall discover that where the most mighty nations existed generations ago, is now a desolate waste, and a howling wilderness. We are now occupying a place that was a wilderness, before we commenced to people it, but which was densely populated generations ago. Such is the case, in a great measure, with Palestine, Babylon, and many parts of the Assyrian empire. Changes have been going on continually, and the ambition of man has desolated nations, overturned kingdoms, depopulated empires, overthrown countries, and millions have had to welter in their gore. This has been the wisdom of Gentile governments, with all their intelligence and philosophy.

As I have said elsewhere, I think that Israel will be the trigger and focal point of most of the wars of tribulation that will rage.

I don't think it is any longer in regards to religion, as it was when it started. Now I think it is more of a control issue. He who dies with the most land still dies, but it is better than what the other guys has in their minds. The middle east is going to be a source of war until the end of time, it is born in them, they are raised to fight, and they find it valiant to die over such small land area...
