Joseph Smith was aware of correct truths; Oliver Cowdery's charge to the first Twelve Apostles included:
QUOTE "Your ordination is not full and complete till God has laid His hands upon you. We require as much to qualify us as did those who have gone before us; God is the same. If the Savior in former days laid His hand upon His disciples, why not in bye latter days ?"
(DHC 2 :196.)
We have forgotten our truths, we have forgotten our heritage. Everything we do is a type, which is to be fulfilled, they show the way, but we still need to have a relationship with our Lord; if we receive any gifts or ordinations, they are only fully empowered when Christ comes to us.
You don't received the Holy Ghost most often at Baptism, but after your Baptism of Fire or Spirit. No Priesthood has power in the Priesthood, unless Christ comes to personally.
