Bankruptcy & Tithing

Some time ago I was reading an article in the Desert News about a judge in New York ruling that some people going through bankruptcy may not make charitable or religious contributions. How will this affect their ability to pay tithing? Source 5

I don't think it would really affect our members. We already have people paying tithing or making some sort of contribution even though they are bankrupt. As long as they feel they can manage then its fine.

My best friend filed for bankruptcy (I assure you guys is a friend and not me biggrin.gif) and the Bishop told him he is not required to pay tithing but he still can make contributions when he can.

Never heard of it. I wonder if the Bishop requires proof of bankruptcy before counseling a couple not to pay tithing?
