KENNEWICK, Washington - When Banner Smith chose jazz choir over a weight-lifting class four years ago, he had no idea that his tenor voice would earn him top honors at the 2006 Music Teachers National Association convention. Though his future as a vocalist looks promising, Smith said he won't be able to pursue a professional career until he spends two years on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
