Comments: The Presidents of the Church have repeatedly counseled the members against child buttock-battering (For a good concise compilation see Source 7 click on \"Quotes on Spanking\")

Unfortunately many people tend to wrest these scriptures and fail to take them seriously.

Child buttock-battering for the purpose of gaining compliance is nothing more than an inherited bad habit.

Its a good idea for people to take a look at what they are doing, and learn how to DISCIPLINE instead of hit.

I think the reason why television shows like \"Supernanny\" and \"Dr. Phil\" are so popular is because that is precisely what many (Not all) people are trying to do.

There are several reasons why child buttock-battering isn't a good idea. Here are some good, quick reads recommended by professionals:

"The man that will be angry at his boy, and try to correct him while he is in anger, is in the greatest fault; he is more to be pitied and more to be condemned than the child who has done wrong.. You can only correct your children by love, in kindness, by love unfeigned, by persuasion, and reason."
-- Joseph F. Smith, Teachings, pg. 254
