The general Relief Society meeting of the Church will take place on Saturday, September 29, at 6:00 p.m. mountain daylight time. Speakers will include a member of the First Presidency and the members of the Relief Society general presidency.

LDS WOMEN WARNED ABOUT EFFECT OF MEDIA

To `an alarming extent` today's children are being educated by the media, President Thomas S. Monson, first counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints warned women during the annual General Relief Society meeting Saturday.

General Relief Society Meeting Studies Doctrine Mormon

Who attended the meeting?
I loved everyone's talk, especially President Thomas S. Monson's. One thing that stuck was the 3 goals he mentioned.
1. Study diligently
-seek learning by study & faith
-we should have a firm foundation in the gospel of Jesus Christ and a determination to live righteously.
-2 Nephi 9
-2 Timothy 1:7-8

2. Pray earnestly
- The Lord said pray always and I will pour my spirit unto you
- Prayer is our defense through temptation
-we should teach by example the importance of prayer

3. Serve willingly
-we should be observant and look for opportunities to serve others
- remember charity never faileth.


Relief Society President Julie B Beck talked about being Strong and Immovable in:
1. FAITH
-we should excel in sharing the gospel and our testimonies with others
-we should have sincere family prayers, FHE once a week,
-we should give freely of our knowledge and talents

2. FAMILY
-we should be great at upholding, protecting, and nourinshing our family and maintaining a strong marriage
-we should know, live and defend the doctrine of the family
-every family needs work and with the Lord's help we can be succesful in raising children with our knowledge

3. RELIEF
-RS should be the best at providing relief.
-defnition of Relief is to lift up or to lighten out of trouble
-we should ask the Lord 'who needs our help?'

Meeting Society Relief General

I did and it was so awesome! I had almost decided not to go because I was having such a hard morning but I am luckily married to a wonderful man and he brought me over a dress and even stayed to help set up tables and such for the dinner. I am so glad!

I loved President Monson's talk so much! The spirit was so strong and he was so funny with his story about the bookstore!

I appreciate you putting your notes down as I took them but didn't get everything. In RS testimony meeting today a sister bore her testimony of how she prayed for the courage to get down on her knees each morning to ask the Lord who needed her today. She said it was something she had been thinking about since going but the more she reflected on it she wondered if she would be able to do it--she mentioned if it was a family member it would be pretty easy to serve them but what if the person who needed her was during "her time" or it was inconvenient. She bore a strong witness that we need to have courage to do that and then DO IT!

I was fed spiritually to overflowing yesterday and it was wonderful. I am glad you made it!

Meeting Society Relief General

Yes I agree the spirit was so strong AlaskanLDS:) The bookstore story was so funny.
For those who don't know,
it was about a man at a bookstore who asked the helper or the person behind the counter if he had the book, 'Men, the Master of Women'. The man behind the counter said sarcastically, 'Try the FICTION section"

I'm glad you attended the meeting. I think whenever we feel like not going to meetings is when we should strive harder to attend and afterwards we eventually feel a lot better.

I got a few more notes I took down...

Silvia H. Allred the First councelor of the Relief Society Presidency spoke about Visiting Teaching.
- Relief Society was organized for 2 purposes
~relieve the poor
~and to save souls

She talked about how our Savior addressed to Peter and said 'If ye love me....feed my sheep'
HOW? by doing our VISITING TEACHING.
-we should learn their needs
-give spiritual instruction
-listen to the promptings
-be willing to give of your substance and time
-attend each others needs
Moroni 6:4
We should do VT with a willing and joyful heart.


Sister Barbara Thompson , Second councelor spoke about the Family.
She said satan is working over time to attack the family making people believe 'marriage is not important' or that 'kids dont need a father and a mother'

She said we should tell our children how much we love them and hug them everyday.
We should teach by example, read from the scriptures to them and have FHE.

-Kids forgive, forget and move on quicker than adults...when we are in the wrong we should be quick to apologize to them.

-We should study A Proclamation to the World.
-Strenghtening families is our duty
-Rely on Christ to help us
