Ancient latrine fuels debate at Qumran
QUMRAN, West Bank - The discovery of a 2,000-year-old toilet at one of the world's most important archaeological sites is focusing renewed interest on a question that has preoccupied scholars for more than half a century: Who lived at Qumran?

Part of the exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls at the San Diego Natural History Museum includes mention of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon.
One of the documents recovered and on display is a lease agreement that includes the name "Alma of Judah." The commentary posted by this piece noted that this was the oldest recorded incidence of the name "Alma" outside of the Book of Mormon. In addition, the Premier of Israel was identified on this scroll and called "bar Kokhba," or Son of the Star. (Check Abraham 3:13)
In another section, Joseph Smith was mentioned as having translated ancient texts - which, for some reason I missed but heard about from two others who attended.
If you are in the area of Southern California, I highly recommend attending this fascinating exhibit. It's four hours, the rooms are kept very very cold to preserve the documents, so prepare by wearing appropriate clothing, and *don't* bring young children.

Comments: Having studied the Dead Sea Scrolls for a number of years, it becomes apparent, contrary to the opinon of many scholars regarding the idendtity of the original Teacher of Righteousness, he is John the Baptist having come to prepare the way for Christ.
The end of Days counterpart to John the Baptist is also dicribed by John The Baptist as a foreunner like unto himself to pave the way for the second coming as John did for the first.
It becomes apparent when close attention is given to the scrolls, that this latter day John the Baptist is the same preperatory servant to Christ mentioned throughout the Book of Isaiah. He is also the One like unto Moses mentioned in the D&C 103 and is the Servant in the hands of Christ to come foward in Great power in section 113 and section 85 of the D&C.
These scroll descriptions of this Latter Day Teacher of Righteousness then become the most descriptive records that enable us to be able to identify and recognize this man when the Lord brings him out of obscurity and into the Light Suddenly as was John the Baptist.
Joseph Smith said John The Baptist had written many things to come forth in the Last Days. Well, you are seeing the reality of that in the form of the Dead Sea Scrolls some of which was written by the Original Teacher of Righteousness, John The Baptist.
These scriptures are estential for adding to the decriptions of this final John The Baptist like Prophet to come forth as described by Joseph Smith.
To properly understand events to come that preceed the Second Coming of the Lord, an understanding of the Dead Sea Scrolls are essential.
