I think they tried their best to keep calm. Many people may see them as they did not do well but I think they did great based on the circumstances. If the person that shouts the most, if the person that argues the most, if the person who does not allow the other person to answer the question is the one that is perceived as the one that handle it "better" so it be. The missionaries tried their best to be polite and even tried to shake hands with the guy and he refused, who was really angry then?
The preacher was just looking to argue with the "white" boys and he is full of pride (hence his comments in the last part). Satan has a good hold on him.

It is a shame that a man of obviously some years and life experience thinks that his ability to successfully 'confound' or 'debate' what is truth to those that are younger and without such confrontational experience proves his authority, intellectual prowess or his correctness. Simply put, the truth IS. One can argue different and sometimes with success, but it still doesn't change the truth.
The older man's understanding of the doctrine is weak and he obviously missed Christ's message about humility. Reminded me of a Pharisee, revelling in confrontation rather than righteousness and fellowship. It is his choice, I'd like to think that the missionaries learned the difference between a 'teaching moment' and when its time to drop a card and leave quickly.
The man wouldn't know Christ, if our Lord braided a whip in front of him and beat him with it.
I'm sure this happens all the time. Missionaries are trained to teach the Gospel (faith, repentance, baptism, gift of the holy ghost, endure till the end) In my humble opinion, they look for willing pupils. People like this street preacher they ran into have obviously not been prepared by the spirit to be taught. He didn't want to hear anything the missionaries wanted to say, he cut them off every time they tried to address his concerns. They were trying to be polite,so it remains to be seen if they could played scripture ping pong with him. He never gave them a chance.
I laugh when someone quotes 2 John 1 personally.

2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. |

What I am getting at really is that there are few people who would have been able to have an educated conversation with that guy... That person would have had to have been well educated in evangelical interpretations of the scriptures vs lds understanding of the same scriptures and looked a certain way. |
