What Do Mormons Believe? - Page 2

I was looking at the Snoop Dogg post about him converting to Mormonism and it reminded me of this board, good place to get in some posts if you don't mind. Thanks for answering my questions so well. I will post some more.

Believe Mormons What

I agree that it is not possible to sum up the beliefs of the church in a few lines. There is much controversy with the LDS church on points like we believe God and the Son are separate beings, why do we have additional scripture, and can we drink coke.
In my opinion, the focus on these details has lead away from the larger and more beautiful truths of the LDS faith such as that the family is eternal through the plan of salvation. We also believe that coming to Christ is a very personal and day to day activity through prayer and scripture study. We believe that through this kind of devotion and continual repentance that all men may be saved.

I personally am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because the teachings are so clear and easy to understand while at the same time giving light and hope to all mankind.

Comments: I am not trying to be offensive to Mormons, but I hear of some beliefs not mentioned in these posts, and I would like to know if they are true.
I hear that:

* they believe that God is on a planet, with His wife producing spirit babies.
* I hear that, if you were a good spirit baby, you would receive a white skin body (sounds racist)
* can someone tell me if this is true?

Justin,

We do believe that we are the literal spirit children of God. We also believe that there are no accidents of birth, that God places each spirit where they need to be to best help them in their spiritual progression.

Some members of the Church have theorized that those born into certain situations were those farther along in their spiritual progression (such as the Israelites, being the chosen people of God). This is not a doctrine of the Church and not generally taught, but it is a very common idea, though usually it has little to do with skin color and more to do with being born to certain privileges.

Personally, I am not sure if I agree with this idea, many privileges can also be trails, but I try to keep an open mind. The most important teaching though is that God knows each of us individually, and gives us trails and experiences to help us grow and strengthen ourselves.

Hope this helps!
Morgan

I think the concept of the primitive church is key in a proper life of devotion. Many Cristian religions have become to developed and get too deeply involved in office politics and forget the main focus is to be in our personal walk with God. For it is your personal walk with god that allows others to join it as well.

What Do Mormons Believe?

I agree with you Krakyn Too many churchs have become political in nature from office politics all the way up to national politics. I have and always will remain fast that church and state be separate. This is one of the main issues I have with churchs. I do not like to be told that if I do not go to this church then I will not go to heaven.

Walking in the spirit of the lord my god is a personal journey. It is a journey we all have to take. How we get there is up to us as individuals. We are the ones who will have to answer to god our father in the end. It is nice to share our journey with others and help them in any way we can. In this the concept of the primitive church makes a lot more sense to me.
