Heber J. Grant

A couple of days ago, I was browsing through a fundamentalist website from England. It contains The Messenger, which is a (now online) magazine. Very interesting information on it.

Anyway, there is a great article about Heber J. Grant there. [..]

It brings up some very interesting points. I have read, in a couple of different places, that Heber J. Grant stated in a public meeting in the 1930's (?) that "The heavens were as brass" when he prayed. In this article, the history is shown that even as a Stake President, he admitted to not having a testimony of the Gospel, and later on, as an Apostle, by his actions he showed that he didn't really believe in the principle of Plural Marriage.

Now, it is primarily his statements that are the foundation for the modern doctrine of prophetic infallibility. He is the one who stated that even if the Prophet were to lead people wrongly, if we follow the Prophet, then we will receive all the blessings. Of course, this is in direct opposition to the scriptures, where we are told in D&C 130:31,32:

international QUOTE
20 There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated-

21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.

So, take a gander at this little article. What do you think of it?

Grant J Heber

Interesting points mentioned that I would like to take more time to verify, but I have seen that it was during Pres. Grant's era that a lot of changes in the Church were made (we could say the same now too). I would not hold too much of what his view points were before becoming an Apostle or more so Prophet since I have seen modern day faithless leaders in every position behaving as though their testimony is null.

Offtopic but,
You may wish to change the title of the thread.

Heber J. Grant is one of my favorite latter-day prophets. I don't know but some of his quotes impacted my life and still do.
