What If The Mormon Church Falls Into Apostasy? - Page 2

Here is a big question to ask... Given the current trend...

1. If the Church were in Apostasy would the leaders say so?
2. If the Lord was not well pleased would the leaders say He was not?
3. If the Membership were becoming too focused on riches and being puffed up and so forth would the leaders say so or just continue the General Conference talks and hope those who need to listen and pickup subtle one lines after two days of talks?

You can tell right? I actually missed the straight to the point talks we read from Joseph and Brigham, where have they disappeared too? We know it was not unique to that day since such strength of speech can be heard today as well, but not in the Church, at least not from the Tabernacle, posibly in more private quarters for the few fortunate to hear.

Apostasy Falls Church Mormon The What

Well, we know the answers of those questions JB. As I was reading Doctrine and Covenants I came across these verses on section 84: 54-58

QUOTE
54 And your minds in times past have been darkened because of unbelief, and because you have treated lightly the things you have received-

55 Which vanity and unbelief have brought the whole church under condemnation.

56 And this condemnation resteth upon the children of Zion, even all.

57 And they shall remain under this condemnation until they repent and remember the new covenant, even the Book of Mormon and the former commandments which I have given them, not only to say, but to do according to that which I have written

58 That they may bring forth fruit meet for their Father's kingdom; otherwise there remaineth a scourge and judgment to be poured out upon the children of Zion.

Very strong verses. Could it be that these verses are talking about the present state? Could it be that one of the "former" commandments is Plural Marriage?

Be very careful you two. You will soon be joining me in apostasy. wink.gif

I like all of your points. Of course, JB's rhetorical questions all go right to the root of my discontent.

The one single thing that has disturbed me the most was seeing the huge changes made to Elder Poelman's Oct. 1984 General Conference talk. You can see his actual talk on YouTube. After watching it, go to the November 1984 Ensign and read it. They are two completely different talks, meant to be the same, but with only minor similarities. Elder Poelman's actual address is completely in line with the early teachings of the church. But his redone talk in the Ensign is completely in line with current teachings. I have seen nothing that showed the differences between the two sets of teachings as this example.

It is kind of interesting that someone posted some quotes from early church leaders in a mailing list I am on that apply directly to this discussion. It was posted today.

QUOTE
A people will come forth from among us, who will be zealous of good works, willing to do the bidding of the Lord, who will be taught in His ways, and who will walk in His paths. (Daniel H. Wells; Deseret News 6 November 1875)

But the time will come when the Lord will CHOOSE A PEOPLE OUT OF THIS PEOPLE upon whom he will bestow his choicest blessings. (Heber C. Kimball; Deseret News, 9 November 1865)

To me, this righteous core will not come from those of us who seek to please Babylon before building up Zion.

I take it that you are admitting you are already there? sneaky.gif

Interesting, I have detected that with other talks. I think the only reason they haven't done that with the Journals of Discourses is because they are already widely circulated, but you know who would pick up on a Conference talk. If they had the opportunity the Church would probably burn the JDs.

It doesn't matter really since the Church has already expressed the Journal of Discourses have "some significant mistakes that have been documented". Check here:

It leaves you wondering what is true and what isn't, eh?

What If The Mormon Church Falls Into Apostasy?

I answered that Thread there, this along with the many questions I have documented seem to go with no credible answer. No one has yet to share with me something plausible as to why the old Church setup by Joseph Smith is vastly different from the way the modern one is managed and run.
