Shameful secrets bother us more than guilty secrets. Everyone has secrets, but what causes someone to think about them over and over again? I think it all has to do with what you do with the "Secret", if it's for the greater good than there's no shame in keeping the secret in the first place. If you do not accept certain things you've done, then it is guilt; there is regret.
