When Is It Ok To Lie?

Now that it has been categorically proven Messrs Bush, Blair and Howard lied to their nations to invade Iraq, my question is: when is it OK for a leader to lie?

Do people in these countries like their leaders blatanly lying to them? I know I don't.

I ask this because I am amazed at the lack of political fallout as a result of their hideous lies in the case for invasion.

I am also shocked at how weak the mainstream US, and to a lesser degree Australian, media have been to make their governments accountable for this. It's almost like it is alright for leaders to play their citizens as fools. In fairness, Blair has lost a lot of support and Howard has performed exceptional well in most other areas during his tenure.

But where do we draw the line for what is acceptable?

I don't accept this as fact. So, I cannot answer the question as addressed.

I believe it depends upon the situation. For example, if you ask me if you look fat in that dress, I am going to say no. No matter what.
