international QUOTE (Tubaloth)
Maybe it was better for the children to move onto the next life, instead of trying to live in sin.

Why would they live in sin if they were babies and not given a chance to choose?

View Mormon Testament The God

If we take the story of Abraham and the Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18)

God wants to destory the city because it had become so wicked (And we all know this was pretty bad). Abraham pleads with God.

international QUOTE
32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

Sees if there are 10 Righteous in the city would he spare it. The Lord agrees. But can't find even that. This shows the Lord doesn't WANT to destroy even the most wicked city. But once it has gone past a point there is no hope for it.

When the apostasy happens it affects all people! Yes there could be a rinsing generation that COULD live the gospel. But there comes a time that Generation before them affects things so bad, that God has to start over.

Thats all we are talking about here. Starting the Church over again. Either the Lord can take the truth away all together, (Which affects chilldren) and then restore, or just wipe those people out. Because this happens in the family setting how do you propose God destroy the wicked parents, but keep all the children? This can't be done!

But, we know the fate of Children that die before the age of accountability. We know where Children go! We know how people are judged. So just because God allowed them to be killed doesn't mean they they are loosing out on some type of progression? I trust God knows the bigger picture, and realizes this is what had to be done. Just as God realized the truth had to be taken from the earth.

Comments: Wow some of these remarks are very telling. First do not be so sure that God ordered the Genocide of Cannon. (That is what it is and we should use that term. ) There is 2 traditions in the old testament as to how Israel obtained the promised land. There is the tradition in Joshua which describes an immoral genocide, and the account in judges which tells a much more realistic story. When we read Judges (And the rest of the O. T. For that matter)we see very quickly that the people of Cannon are still there in the lands, after the death of Joshua see Jud. 1:1. This idea really counters what Joshua says. (See and compare jos. 12:16, jud. 1:22; josh 12:21, Jud. 1;27 there are over 20 references that show contradictions but space is limited to show more). What this shows is that perhaps the book of Joshua is over stating this quite a bit. This is not uncommon for text of this period to do so. So I really find it hard to believe that this genocide actually happened like Joshua describes.

Now for the theological concerns. Lets for a minute forget about the killings of the children and women of the Cannonites, and focus on the Israelites.

Its better the some people die to save more people latter. I think this is Jack Bauer's theme.
Lets talk about this idea. Here is a god that commands the killing of children, animal, woman and man. Lets talk about how this was done. Remember Israel has no metal weapons at this point. They are using rocks, clubs, and weapons that do not make clean cuts. They are beating, clubbing babies with rocks, and crude blunt objects, splattering brains, and blood all over themselves, and taking several hits to kill while the children are screaming while they are being clubbed. This is brutal. (Yes it is hard to read but we must see it for what it is to get a grasp of what we are inferring God commanded. ) Now my question is, what kind of mental and emotional scarring does this do to God's chosen people? Why would God allow his chosen people to have such post traumatic syndrome, ruining there lives, and their children's lives and destroy families by participating in such violent acts?

If you do not see this, then you never have seen war. Just look at the U. S. Solders coming home with post-traumatic syndrome. See how the war has affected them, even with the minimal fighting that was done with weapons that "kill cleanly. " Look at the rise of divorce among returning vets and how the war has hurt their families. Look at the homeless rate and mental illness among returning vets. Why would God command his chosen people to endure this while risking the righteousness he is trying to establish? To me this seems counter productive to God's vision of a righteous people. For those who watch 24, you can see how this life has done to Jack. He suffers in the show, he is dead to life, his family hates him, and he is alone. He is like the walking dead working on auto pilot for some unattainable idea of duty. He is a tragic character.

So, a TV show is offered as proof that the scriptures are wrong? Sorry, that dog won't hunt.
